The Ultimate Guide To Cooking With Herbs

By | source: Here Mar 3rd, 2017

The spice rack in my kitchen is pretty pathetic –– I only buy seasoning as I need it, so there’s not much there. Meanwhile, one of my coworkers has her own herb garden. I don’t have much of a green thumb, so I’ll never be on that level, but I may get close with this infographic.

I’ve never seen the appeal of buying fresh herbs instead of settling for the pre-bottled stuff, but this chart makes it tempting. There are some familiar ingredients and also some you may not have ever cooked with. Basil, for example, is great in stir fry, Italian dishes, pesto and as a garnish.

Dill goes well with cheeses and also with yogurt and salmon, while mint is perfect for cakes and pies. Coriander (also known as cilantro) is recommended for stuffings and sausages, but it also goes well with apple pie. Who would’ve known?

You may not plant a garden anytime soon, but the next time you need to impress someone and whip up a meal at home, this guide will make you sound like an expert. While we’re on the topic, take a look at our blog post with a complete veggie cooking cheat-sheet. Soon you’ll be able to throw away all of your cookbooks.
